Em 1897, a empresa Polyphon lançou a “caixa mágica” que funcionava à corda, e tocava discos dourados de metal (é igual à miniatura que está no chão, na capa do álbum). O disco tinha dentes que iam beliscando as palhetas afinadas, tocando trechos de músicas famosas com duração de até 1 minuto, e depois repetia.

Em 2000 consegui uma caixa de tocar discos de uma familia alemã, acompanhada de uns 33 discos.
Depois de limpar, ajustar e lubrificar todo o maquinário, gravei os discos que ainda tocavam e também gravei cada nota das palhetas isoladamente, para criar um Sampler com sua sonoridade.
O resultado ficou tão legal, com seu som tão delicado, que tive a idéia de tocar peças de Bach.
Isto soou tão adequado, parece que Bach havia composto muitas músicas para esta sonoridade!

In 1897, the Polyphon company launched the “magic box” that was wound up and played golden metal discs (it’s the same as the miniature on the floor on the album cover). The disc had teeth that pinched the tuned reeds, playing excerpts of famous songs lasting up to 1 minute, and then repeating.

In 2000, I got a record player from a German family, along with about 33 records.

After cleaning, adjusting and lubricating all the machinery, I recorded the records that were still playing and also recorded each note of the reeds separately, to create a sampler with their sound.

The result was so cool, with such a delicate sound, that I had the idea of ​​playing Bach’s pieces.

This sounded so appropriate, it seems that Bach had composed many pieces for this sound!
